How to Fall Asleep Tips (Part 2 of 2)

Don’t listen to music, watch TV (if it’s really boring and helps you doze off, go ahead and watch it), or browse the web before you sleep. Not only are these things addictive, but they make your mind go in all sorts of directions. Entertaining yourself is effective, but only if it is boring, thus focusing your mind on something mundane and predictable, rather than the thoughts roaming around in your head. For example, you can watch a small scene from a movie that you’ve seen a billion times. My personal favorite is watching the last scene of Titanic.

Buy some ambient music. These type of sound tracks contain natural sound effects, such as ocean waves and a jungle. If you’re like me and love falling asleep to some light rain, there are many rain soundtracks out there. If you search for “Ambient Music” on Amazon, you are going to find a lot of results. Some of the CDs you see here are made specifically to help you fall asleep. Aside from making you fall asleep, they can chill you out and relax you.

How to fall asleep fast? If you don’t get enough shuteye you’re going to be irritable, stressed out, and have a less ability to focus. Yes, there are drugs out there, which can help you fall asleep. But before you do so you need to know that there are natural ways, which can help you fall asleep fast. Everyone has had some sort of problem trying to fall asleep. For some, the problem is more serious. We lay awake thinking about god knows what and just can’t put ourselves to sleep. What’s one to do? Before you buy some sleeping pills, here are some tips on how to fall asleep faster.

Tips on how to fall asleep fast naturally…

Do not take naps during the day. Doing so will simply make you more awake at night.

Have a set time for you to go to sleep. Preferably you want your set time to be early. Let’s say you have a habit of going to sleep at midnight. Start making it a habit of going to sleep at 10:00 p.m. Although you may not fall asleep immediately once you change your time, after a while, you body “clock” will start to adjust and you will fall asleep at 10:00 p.m. rather than at midnight. Doing this enough will set back your biological clock so that you can fall asleep faster.

Turn off your lights before you go to sleep or dim them if you can. What I personally do is turn off all my lights and use my cell phone as a flashlight to help me get around.

If you are thinking about “I have to do this tomorrow…can’t forget about the homework assignment…wonder what grade I’ll get…what does my boss think of my work…”, make a list of things that you are thinking about so that you don’ have to keep on thinking about them.

How to fall asleep? All of us have experienced symptoms of insomnia. In fact, a strong minority of adults experience it each week. If you are considering taking sleeping pills, before you do so, there are ways to fall asleep fast without them. In fact, you need to make lifestyle changes a priority rather than relying solely on sleeping pills because drugs do not come without side effects.

How to fall asleep at night & how to fall asleep instantly

Sleeping pills are recommended only as a short-term solution. Although they may get you immediate results, over time, the effects of it will start to wear off. You may also become addicted to some forms of sleeping pills and have issues once you stop taking them because your body is used to them. Furthermore, with some types of sleeping pills you’ll have symptoms such as feeling tired and drowsy.

Depending on the severity of your insomnia however, there are pills on the market, which are not habit forming. Furthermore, there are pills, which are not habit forming and do not leave you feeling drowsy. You need to talk to your doctor to see what’s available for your situation. Despite this, there is no perfect sleeping pill out there. Some pills only give you a light sleep and others put you into a very deep sleep. As such, if you want more sleep, it is recommended that you only occasionally use them so that you don’t get their side effects. Use them once in a while and you should be fine.

Here are some long-term solutions to help you get more sleep…

Make your room comfortable. If you are not falling asleep fast you may just have to invest in a new mattress. Maybe your mattress is too small if you’re sleeping with someone else. If you have noise going into your bedroom, consider getting a white noise machine or earplugs. If there is light going into your room, consider getting a sleeping mask. You may want to consider getting a sleeping mask or a white noise machine even if there isn’t that much light or noise because some of us, including myself, are more sensitive to it that others.

Exercise, but not 4 or so hours before you go to sleep. The more energy you use up during the day, the more tired and ready to sleep you’ll be come bedtime. If you exercise close to your bedtime, your mind and body will not be in a relaxed state.

Read a book. It helps many people relax and fall asleep.

How to fall asleep easier: If your mind is wandering, thinking about this and that, change your focus. Yes, that means counting sheep. If you prefer, you can focus your mind on really mundane or boring. The key is to keep it simple! Yes, I know it’s hard to keep things simple in a complex world such as ours, but do your best to relax.

An hour or so before your bedtime, dim or turn off the lights.
